Possibly a little embarrassing, but when I was a little girl, I could hardly wait to find someone and fall in love. Maybe it was the love songs I listened to over and over and over again that made me want to feel that kind of love. I felt something when I listened to those songs — and I loved the feeling.
I was looking to be loved by someone else. I felt loved by my parents, but that wasn’t the same. That just felt normal. I was looking for that feeling I felt when I listened to songs like the 1978 song, Reunited by Peaches and Herb, or Somewhere (There’s A Place For Us), from Westside Story.
Unfortunately, I didn’t pay enough attention to the song, Lookin’ For Love (in all the wrong places), that was made popular in the movie Urban Cowboy; because I most certainly was — looking for love in all the wrong places.
Although, I have truly been blessed to reunite with someone I deeply love, and I feel as if we are soul mates; I understand now that this kind of love isn’t the only source where we find authentic love.
Authentic love can be found when everything and everyone around you seems to turn against you or disappear. Authentic love is found from within. It is found when we connect with that from which we came.
It was my Spirit that connected with those love songs when I was a little girl. I was in love with love, and understood it to be found where the songs implied –in other people. I agree that sharing your love with someone else can be a wonderful experience, but receiving that kind of love in return is dependent on somebody else’s approval.
There is a deeper, more authentic love that is connected to something more eternal. It’s worth repeating…that kind of love is found from within. When we find that kind of love — the unconditional, everlasting, non-judgmental, love of God — we realize that’s what we’ve been seeking all along.
