Christmas Eve in the 70’s seems like so long ago, and like yesterday at the same time. Can we pause our busy lives and take just a moment to remember? For us 70’s kids, it was possibly the single most anticipated night of the year. Santa was coming!
Perhaps you asked Santa for an Etch-A-Sketch or a Lemon Twist. Did you want the Operation Game, Simon Game, or UNO? You may have wanted an Easy Bake Oven or G.I. Joe. Do you remember the Weeble Wobble family that wouldn’t fall down no matter how far you leaned them over?
Did you let your Slinky roll down the stairs, or mash your Silly Putty on the newspaper to see the words transfer? Did you bake Shrinky Dinks in the oven with your mom? Those were so cool. We also had Pet Rocks, Skate Boards, and of course, Stretch Armstrong. Some of my favorite gifts were baby dolls, bottles, strollers, bicycles, a Dummy, and a Sean Cassidy Microphone. Kevin says his were a TCR Racetrack, a train set, and an Evil Knievel Rocket Cycle. What were some of your favorites?
Now that we are older, we have the opportunity to pass along the magic of Christmas. Children today may remember Dinosaurs, Bluey Dolls, and/or Blippi Dolls. No matter the gift, it’s really the Spirit of Christmas that matters most. It’s the joyful anticipation of this magical night of Christmas Eve — when Santa was on his way.
Merry Christmas!
